چکیده

We have demonstrated temperature rises that result from nonlinear absorption in single-pass frequencydoubling experiments using femtosecond pulses and a 3-mm-thick KNbO3 crystal. These temperature changes shift the phase-matching curve and must be accounted for to optimize the conversion efficiency. We obtained a maximum second-harmonic generation (SHG) efficiency of 66% at an input power of 107 mW and a slope efficiency of ;1.5%/mW at low input powers. We have investigated, for the first time to our knowledge, the focusing dependence of the phase-matching temperature. We have also found that the temperaturedependent SHG efficiency in femtosecond SHG experiments is significantly different from that obtained for frequency doubling of continuous-wave light. © 1999 Optical Society of America [S0740-3224(99)01008-5] OCIS codes: 190.0190, 190.2620, 190.4160, 320.2250, 320.7110, 320.0320.

Generation of dual-wavelength pulses by frequency doubling with quasi-phase-matching gratings.

We demonstrate generation of two synchronized picosecond pulses at different wavelengths near 778 nm by frequency doubling of a femtosecond pulse. We use nonlinear frequency filtering with quasi-phase-matching gratings, which allow us to obtain second-harmonic spectral intensities that are higher than the spectral intensities of the pump.

Efficient second-harmonic generation of tunable femtosecond pulses into the blue in periodically poled KTP

We report efficient single-pass second-harmonic generation of tunable femtosecond pulses into the blue in periodically poled KTP sPPKTPd. Using a 2 mm crystal with 4 μm grating period and femtosecond fundamental pulses at 76 MHz, we show that average powers of up to 320 mW in the blue at conversation efficiencies as high as 20% are attainable despite the limitations of group velocity mismatch a...

Blue-light-induced infrared absorption in KNbO3

Owing to its high nonlinearity and low passive losses, KNbO3 has great potential as a medium for efficient frequency doubling and parametric oscillation." 2 For example, KNbO3 has been used successfully for the production of cw blue light by frequency doubling of a dye laser,3 doubling of a semiconductor diode laser,4 and nonlinear mixing of diode and Nd:YAG lasers.5 In recent work we observed ...

Tunable, high-power, solid-state sources for the blue and ultraviolet

We describe new sources of tunable, high-power radiation in the blue and ultraviolet. Continuous-wave (cw), singlefrequency blue radiation tunable across 425-489 nm and femtosecond ultraviolet (UV) radiation tunable across 250-355 nm is generated by intracavity frequency-doubling of resonant signal radiation in cw and ultrafast optical parametric oscillators (OPOs) in singly-resonant oscillator...

Group velocity mismatch-absent nonlinear frequency conversions for mid-infrared femtosecond pulses generation

A novel group velocity mismatch (GVM) absent scheme for nonlinear optical parametric procedure in mid-infrared was developed with type-I quasi phase matching by use of an off-digital nonlinear optical coefficient d31. This was achieved by matching of the group velocities of the pump and the signal waves, while the phase velocities were quasi phase matched. The system employs MgO-doped periodica...
